Hey Ya Charlie Brown

We're bending the mash up rules once again, but this is funny stuff.  Who knew that Andre 3000 was really doing a Snoopy impression all along?  Also don't miss Linus breakin' it down around the 2:20 mark...

Punch-Drunk Surprise

OK this might be cheating just a little bit, as this week's mashup is really just one song, but setting Radiohead's "No Surprises" to a montage of Punch-Drunk Love might just be the greatest thing Adam Sandler has ever been a part of.  Yep even better than this kids.

We found the vid here, but you can watch it below too.

Snoop & Foreigner - "Urgent Signs"

Continuing our love affair with wuss rock/hip hop mash ups, check out this groovy gene splice of Snoop and Justin Timberlake's "Signs," with Foreigner's "Urgent."

Supercent: "A Little Bit"

Supertramp's "Give a Little Bit" and 50 Cent's "Just a Lil Bit" share virtually no musical DNA, save their similar titles.  In fact, just putting Rick Davies and Curtis Jackson in the same room together might cause the universe to implode.  Sounds like mash up gold.

"Paperback Believer"

Those Beatles always were just a Monkees rip-off.  Happy Monday morning kids!

Mashup Monday (Thursday): "Love Will Freak Us"

(Yep we're late...sorry folks) As a NYC-based music blog, we are required by law to worship Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart"...and we do.  But just when you thought the most-covered song in the blogosphere was out of tricks...along comes this.

Missy Elliot never sounded so good.  Ever.

Mash Up Monday - "Born To Vertigo"

Some bloggers just go bonkers over a nifty mash-up.  Something about the idea of taking two seemingly disparate, great songs (or better still, crap songs) and molding them together into a a whole new animal, well it just gets them all a twitter.

SS, on the other hand, has never really touched on the mash up scene.  Sure, we dug the illustrious Grey Album, considered by many to be the gold standard in the genre.  But for our money, too often they just seem like a novelty rather than a real song worth blogging about.  Cramming Right Said Fred up with Two Live Crew isn't art, it's just sampling at its lowest form...or so we thought.

Begrudgingly, we finally dipped out toes into some musical gene splicing, and found ourselves actually having a lot of fun.  Sure most of the tracks will never make it past a third spin on our iPods, but the joy, for us, has been in the discovery.  Like finding that upside down airplane stamp, or a Honus Wagner baseball card...though we'd imagine a lot less lucrative for now.  Either way, here's our first pick, courtesy of EW's PopWatch.  Combine one part U2's "Vertigo," and one part Patrick Hernandez's "Born to Be Alive" (so THAT's who sang that) and you get this almost club-worthy joint.  Enjoy.

Download: Steve Lima - "Born to Vertigo"

PS - Nobody better steal our mash up.  "I'm Too Horny" is gonna be huge yo!
