The Gutter Twins on Letterman

We caught The Gutter Twins on the Late Show last night - Dave was into it (he asked the guys to "drive cross country with him" after the show) and so were we.  But hey - on the other hand Leno did have Lisa Lampanelli, so we expect a lot of people missed it...sigh

Check out the clip after the jump.

The Helio Sequence on Jimmy Kimmel

DVR alert: The Helio Sequence's shimmering guitar pop is coming to Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight, as the band will perform the title track from latest LP Keep Your Eyes Ahead.  We love this track, particularly how it shows of the Oregon duo's ability to sound epic, while maintaining a warm, demure feel that makes their best work so appealing.

Previously On Lost

We paid no mind last week when Previously On Lost single-handedly created a new genre: recap-rock.  Our bad.  Especially since SS has a full-blown case of LOST fever these days (who art thou Christian Shepherd?!), it's only right that we give these Brooklyners some love.  Following each new Thursday night episode, they drop a new indie rock ditty full of island mysteries, Jakob sightings, Taller Ghost Walt and more Dharma-brand goodies.

Last week gave us "Just Wink," a reference to Jack's oh-so-subtle signal to Kate that the cavalry was on its way.  Next week: A bit of Bernard-inspired southern hip hop.  Kidding...Or are we???

Vampire Weekend on Letterman

Ahhhh Vampire Weekend.  We've stayed out of the debate up until now, but now that the band's debut LP is finally on the shelves, it must be asked:  Why all the fuss yo?

Seriously kids - This is a well played, professional, totally enjoyable but lightweight batch of indie pop.  No more, no less.  Sure the Paul Simon influences are fun, and Ezra Koenig does indeed love to play up his boats and blazers mentality - But this hardly constitutes an album worth agonizing over.  We dig it.  Lots of others do too.  So should you.  Now let's move on.

Check out Vampire Weekend on Late Show with David Letterman after the jump.

Sia on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Sia's Some People Have Real Problems dropped back on January 9, and despite generally positive reviews and that Zero 7 pedigree, we really haven't paid much attention so far.  But that appearance on Jimmy Kimmel last week finally got us on board.

"Buttons" is a pretty catchy tune on its own, but it becomes basically the coolest song ever written when you introduce black lights, glow sticks (and perhaps a touch of acid).  Check it out after the jump.

Ben's Brother - "Stuttering (Kiss Me Again)"

Mp3 player and car commercials have been using blogger rock to empty our pockets for years - why not chewing gum?  Have you been wondering about that song in the new Dentyne Ice commercial?  Us too.  Turns out it's a tune called Stuttering (Kiss Me Again" by Ben's Brother.  Listen to the track over at MySpace, or check out our YouTube clip after the jump.

Lily Allen to Star in Dr. Who?

British tabloids are reporting that Lily Allen is in talks to join the cast of Dr. WhoAllegedly set to play the Doctor's new sidekick on the fourth season of the re-launched BBC sci-fi classic, we should still probably take this with a grain of salt since Allen is already set to star in her own BBC show next year.  But as long as these TV commitments don't interfere with her burgeoning lunch box design career or British cover girl obligations, we're all for it.  Oh wait, didn't she used to sing too?

Feist on SNL

So is it just us, or was this weekend's SNL actually pretty good?  Brian Williams was one of the better non-"entertainer" hosts in ages, showing off some solid comedic chops and having no problem at all playing the pompous anchorman image for laughs.  But more importantly, how awesome was Feist?!  The tempo on "1234" and "I Feel it All" was taken up a notch and the tunes were better for it.  It was more than enough to have us busting The Reminder out of storage.  Check out both clips after the jump.

CSS Wants to Get Touched

As die-hard Yankee fans here at SS, this year's blink-and-you-missed-it Series was obviously a bit painful, even in its brevity.  But we did catch a new iPod commercial that used pretty much the single greatest lyric for the new Touch version: "My music is where I'd like you to touch."  CSS, did you know you were writing a million dollar jingle when you penned "Music is My Hot, Hot Sex?"  We thinks not, but the 18 year old kid that thought up the clip should have a seat next to Steve Jobs.  Check out the clip after the jump.

Talib Kweli on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Live cuts from even our favorite hip hop acts can sometimes be hit or miss.  Case in point: Brooklyn native Talib Kweli has always been an SS fav, and Eardrum might be his best work to date, but his performance of "Hot Thing" on Jimmy Kimmel last week left us a little cold.  Check out the clip after the jump and let us know what you think.

Modest Mouse on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Modest Mouse's track record on late-night TV gigs is a bit spotty (in particular we remember a lackluster performance of "The Ocean Breathes Salty"), but other than some weak backing vocals, the band had its shit together for last night's Jimmy Kimmel performance.  After an equally kick ass Rilo Kiley appearance last week, is Jimmy boy replacing Conan as our go-to-guy for late night tunes?

Flight of the Conchords - "Business Time"

Tonight's episode of Flight of the Conchords, "What Goes On Tour," once again reaffirmed our faith in the post-Sopranos era of cable television.  After a typically befuddling but strangely satisfying season (series?) finale for John from Cincinnati, and the usual guilty pleasure of Entourage, Brett and Jermaine topped them both with 25 minutes of dead-panned genius.  Outside of Tenacious D, the SS office tends to steer clear of the rock/comedy genre, but this time we might just have to bite the bullet and pick up that new EP on Subpop.  Check out the "4th best unofficial fan site" here or FOTC at MySpace to find out more about the band.  It's business time baby.

Mission: Man Band

Rolling Stone reports on the saddest (and that's saying a lot) reality show VH1 has crammed into its already overstuffed, d-list celebrity-filled schedule:

"...VH1’s new half-hour sad-sack fest that gathers the runts of Lou Pearlman’s litter and convinces them to make a new, six-pack-abs-free, over-thirty boy band."

Watch Chris Kirkpatrick ('NSYNC), Bryan Abrams (Color Me Badd), Jeff Timmons (98 Degrees) and Rich Cronin (LFO) struggle to once again to pre-fab pop's summit on Mission: Man Band (yes, they actually named it Man Band).  Britney?  Lindsay?  Call your agents.  Maybe they already have openings for, oh, say season 4.

Silvio Dante - A Tribute

Still bitching about the Sopranos finale?  Did you throw your cable box out the window before you realized nothing was wrong?  Well despite what some felt was a less-than-satisfying finale, we're still gonna pay tribute to Silvio, the only guy who can claim to be in the best backing band of all time, and on the best show of all time.  Tony's right-hand-man, who spent the final episode languishing in a coma, deserved better.  Don't you fugetaboutit people.

Tori Spelling Discovers Maroon 5

They might be too big to play the Peach Pit these days, but this clip of Kara Flowers (Maroon 5's first incarnation) rocking out on 90210 has us longing for a battle of the bands between Zack Attack and California Dreams.

"You All, Everybody"

SS was glued to the tube last night for the kick-ass Lost season finale.  To you DVR folks that might not have caught the episode yet, don't worry...we won't spill the beans.  But for those that have been following the "You're Gonna Die Charlie" plotline to its resolution last night (or iiiis it?), we've got an mp3 from everyone's favorite faux Oasis-wannabe one-hit-wonders, Driveshaft.

Download: "You All, Everybody" - Driveshaft (Read more about the track here)

And if you need more tunes for that season 4 kick-off party this winter, check out Lost tribute band You All Everybody, over at MySpace.

It's gonna be a long wait till January, brother.
